Known affectionately as the Garden of England, there are certainly less attractive places to live in the UK than the wonderful county of Kent.
Not only does the region have plenty of lush countryside for people to enjoy, but its coastal location means there are also lots of splendid seaside towns to visit. The county was mentioned a couple of times in a Telegraph article on the ten best up-and-coming property hotspots in Britain around 18 months ago and it is safe to say that the news provider’s insight was spot on.

Bromley
Bromley was one of the areas featured in the Telegraph piece and it is easy to see why it is so popular among house hunters.One of the best things Bromley has going for it is its close proximity to the centre of London, making it an ideal location for people who work in the City.
That’s not to say that Bromley isn’t a good place to live in its own right – far from it. It boasts two excellent schools in Newstead Wood girls’ school and St Olave’s boys’ school, which are among the best educational institutions in the country. This will certainly catch the eye of families who are looking for a new Kent-based home.
Folkestone
The second Kent town to be included in the Telegraph’s list of up-and-coming areas, Folkestone is also proving to be a popular property hotspot. Again, it seems that many people who choose to move to this historic town are taken in by the excellent location.
Commuters can get to France just as quickly as they can travel into London, which is undoubtedly Folkestone’s unique selling point. The town has also received a significant facelift in recent years and it is hard to think of too many better views than the one from the top of the mile-long cliff-top promenade of The Leas. On a clear day, you can see mainland Europe from up here.
Chatham
Situated in northern Kent, Chatham is one of the Medway towns and is perhaps best known for its historic dockyard. This is where Lord Nelson’s flagship HMS Victory was constructed in the 18th century before it was used in the triumphant Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
Although the Chatham Historic Dockyard maritime museum acts as a reminder of bygone eras, the docks are very different in 2025. The area has become increasingly trendy and the demand for flats and houses in the town has risen sharply in recent years. It seems that luxurious waterside living is all the rage at the moment.
Canterbury
Another shining example of Kent’s rich history, Canterbury is a city that seems to strike an excellent balance between old and new. The stunning cathedral is the oldest in England and remains a major tourist attraction, while the city as a whole is steeped in tradition.
That said, it has also been transformed into a modern, vibrant metropolis in recent years and it has a multitude of superb restaurants, as well as a unique blend of high street stores and independent retailers. With the seaside towns of Herne Bay and Whitstable in close proximity, it is easy to see why more and more people are laying roots in this part of Kent.
