Domestic life 40 years ago was very different – technology has changed our homes irrevocably.
In the early 1970s only 50 per cent owned a landline phone, while a third of families didn’t even have a washing machine.
As many as 14 per cent were fridgeless, an appliance which it would be unthinkable to leave out of the modern home.
Argos have tracked changes over the last 40 years, having first launched back in 1973. The very first Argos catalogue had 250 pages with 4,700 lines, while today the retailer has over 29,000 products available.
This just shows the explosion in choice that consumers now enjoy, especially when it comes to kitting out their houses.
To celebrate these changes Argos have put together the following video for us, detailing just how technology has transformed the home – and how it might change in the future.
