If you’re someone who loves hosting parties, there are some fantastic ways you can create a relaxed, sociable ambience in your home. From permanent fixtures to temporary accessories, we have a helpful list of options to consider.
Lighting
One of the first elements to consider is lighting. Having one bright, central light is not conducive to creating a comfortable, party-friendly atmosphere, so it is worth considering other options.
Perhaps one of the most obvious is simply having a dimmer switch installed, which can help soften your existing light. There are more interesting options that can really impress your guests, though – and even become something of a talking point.
These include stylish floor lamps. Moroccan-style henna lamps, for example, can be really striking. Sitting directly on the floor, these come in warm colours such as red and help cast a gorgeous glow across the room. Invest in several of these and position them at intervals throughout the lounge to create the best effect.
Alternatively, pick a Moroccan candle lantern. This is absolutely perfect for achieving a soft, flickering light, with its intricate pattern helping cast a lovely glow.
Small tables
Our next tip is to pepper your interior with several little coffee tables. By doing so, you can easily turn your lounge into a party-perfect space, as you can simply reposition them throughout the room. This will mean that there will be plenty of places for guests to place glasses and plates, which in turn means they can easily move around and mingle with one another.
You could also place little decorations on these, such as candles or flowers. Alternatively, use them to carry small plates of nibbles, such as nuts or crisps.
Partitions
While often a large open space is best for parties, from time to time it is nice to be able to divide the room up. For instance, if you are hosting a birthday party and want to keep the food separate from your guests until it is time to cut the cake, a second area would be perfect.
A simple way to achieve this is by investing in ornate folding screens or partitions. Easy to move around, these can be incorporated into your day-to-day decor or folded away when you are not hosting guests – the choice is yours. When having a party, meanwhile, they help divide up the space; this can also have the effect of making larger rooms cosier, should you be staging a smaller, more intimate occasion.
Elegant accessories
Lastly, it is a good idea to purchase some elegant yet practical accessories you can use when guests arrive. These can act as a finishing touch to the party atmosphere.
If you regularly serve food, among the best options is buying a pretty cake stand that can act as a centrepiece. Having champagne flutes, crystal tumblers and other attractive glassware to hand is also useful – and essential if you are planning to celebrate a special occasion. Meanwhile, it’s also worth considering striking alternatives to these, such as wide, flat champagne saucers rather than flutes.
Other accessories to think about include stylish throws. The good thing about these is that they can not only add some creative flair, but also help to protect furniture from damage while you’re entertaining.
