…and the rest of your decor will fall into place. It really can’t be underestimated how important it is to design a good lighting plan that suits each of the rooms in your home.
With the right amount of light, you can make a room look larger, brighter and more interesting. Indeed, without changing anything to do with the decor apart from the lighting, you will still see an immediate difference to the space.
The first thing to do is look around the room and decide where you need lighting and what sort it should be. For example, if you have a painting you want to show off, you could purchase a wall light to illuminate it, while if you regularly read in a certain chair, you’ll need to position a table lamp nearby.
Choosing your fixtures
Once you have come up with a plan for how you will illuminate your room and what fittings you will need to do this, you can turn your attention to the fun part – design. Lamps and lights are among the most integral elements in a Moroccan-themed room and because of this they are far more ornate than the British equivalent.
The most popular Moroccan lights come in metal frames like brass or silver filled in with glass the colour of jewels. This means the light they cast on your room is soft and muted, creating a much more pleasant atmosphere than a harsh white bulb.
Other options include antique brass that has had a pattern cut out of it to let the warm glow of light shine through. Alternatively, you could choose something in a sheer material, which the bulb within glows through. Examples include metal frames with a goat’s skin canvas pulled over it that has been hand painted with henna to give it a unique touch. This will certainly be an eye-catching feature in your home.
Yet that’s just the lamps, as there’s also ceiling, wall and floor lights to consider. For that finishing touch, you can also purchase pretty glass or Moroccan candle lanterns to add an extra sparkle to your home.
