Most local authorities in Wales have not identified sufficient land to meet their housing needs over the course of the next five years, according to a report.
Inside Housing reported that figures it received from the Welsh government show that 14 of the 25 local authorities in Wales have failed to meet a planning policy target, with six of them yet to publish land availability studies.
According to the report, Welsh planning policy states that its councils are obliged to identify land which can be used to meet the need for housing in a given area over five years.
The report suggests that Cardiff City Council was the worst-performing local authority as it would run out of land on which to build new homes towards the end of 2025, having only identified viable sites up to that date.
The report said that more than 15,000 homes are needed to be built each year in Wales to keep up with demand but that around a third of that number were actually built in the year to March.
